Good for Spanish, some setup needed

I signed up for the Spanish for Kids Program for my 5-year-old last month. The video lessons are pretty engaging, and he actually looks forward to them. I like the Play-Based Learning Curriculum concept. The Parent Teaching Guides are helpful, but I did spend a bit of time figuring out the best way to integrate it into our daily routine. It's not completely 'set it and forget it,' which I guess is expected for a learning program. Overall, good value for the content, but be ready to be involved.

Always a reliable resource

I've been using The Cultured Kid for about a year now, mainly for the French and German programs. This time I got the multi-language bundle deal. The consistency is what keeps me coming back; the quality of the Video Lessons hasn't dropped. My oldest, who started with the French program, is really picking up vocabulary faster than I expected. The Interactive Games are a big hit. Their support team is also quick to respond if you have questions, which I found out with my first subscription. It's a solid platform for home language learning.

Quick question about the free trial. If I sign up for the 7-day thing, will they just auto-charge me after that? Or do I have to manually sign up for the subscription?

W Wendy Foster 1 month ago
They'll auto-charge you unless you cancel before the 7 days are up. Most places do that these days, so just set a reminder!

Yeah, it's pretty standard. Just make sure to cancel on day 6 if you don't want to continue. I did the trial for Spanish and then decided to stick with it, but you definitely have to opt out if you don't want to pay.

Hey guys, thinking about signing up for The Cultured Kid. Is it really only 5 minutes a day? Like, is that enough to actually teach a kid a language or is it just 'exposure'?

J Josh S. 3 weeks ago
Yeah, it's seriously like 5-10 minutes tops for the actual 'lesson'. We've been doing French for a few months with my 4-year-old and she's picking up way more than I expected. It's not like she's fluent, but she understands a lot of basic stuff and can say a bunch of words.

I think it's more about consistency than length. My friend uses it for her 3-year-old and said they do the quick lesson and then she just tries to sprinkle in those words throughout the day. It's not a magic bullet but it's def not just 'exposure' like some apps.

Thinking of getting this for my 6-year-old, but I don't speak a word of Spanish myself. Will I be totally lost trying to teach her, or is it designed for parents like me?

D David K. 1 month ago
Nah, you'll be fine! It's totally designed so you don't need to know the language. They have all the guides and pronunciations. I'm learning along with my kid, it's actually pretty cool.

That's how I am with French! It's totally doable. The parent guides really break everything down, and the lessons are super clear. You just follow along. It's not like you have to be fluent to lead the activities.

How does The Cultured Kid compare to like, Dino Lingo or Muzzy? My sister used Dino Lingo for her kids and it seemed okay but not amazing.

B Brett Silva 1 month ago
I've used Muzzy before and I honestly prefer The Cultured Kid. Muzzy felt a bit more passive, just watching videos. TCK is much more interactive and hands-on, which my little one responds to better. The 5-minute thing actually works for us.

I haven't used Dino Lingo but I looked into it. TCK feels more structured as a curriculum with clear daily lessons and activities, rather than just a collection of resources. My neighbor uses TCK for Mandarin and really likes how it guides them through what to do each day.

Does anyone know if you can use the homeschooler discount AND the multi-language bundle deal at the same time? Trying to get German and Italian for my two kiddos.

N Nina Silva 3 weeks ago
From what I remember when I signed up last year, you can usually only use one discount at a time. I tried to combine something and it wouldn't let me. Maybe check their coupon policy page?

I think they say discounts usually can't be combined. So you'd probably have to pick the better deal for your situation. The multi-language bundle might be better if the homeschooler one is just for a single language.
